Movies...

Long time ago, a good... sorry, an excellent friend of mine, Cesar, recommends me a cycle of movies based on musics.

Some of them were, Amadeus, Farinelli, Shine and The legend of 1900.

If you see the list of my favorites (just to your right), all of'em are there. Unfortunately, I got just one of those, say Amadeus. And just one (may be 2) weeks ago I got The legend of 1900.

Nonetheless, this weekend I found the other 2. Yesterday morning I saw Shine... and next weekend I'll see (once more) Farinelli.

Electrodynamics

So... Here I'm studying electrodynamics for today's exam.

What about it?
Well, this is about magnetostatics, electric and magnetic field on matter... you know, all that stuff on polarization, magnetization, hundred of different names for the constants which appear on your problem, and even Laplace equation, diff. eq. on power series, and of course (one must never forget it) Boundary Conditions.

Through the day I expect to make a review on the concepts, and (if I can) a formulas book.


Oh!, I finally get how to pass to the covariant formulation of the electrodynamics in a smooth way. Sooner I'll put something on my Math and Phys page, but if you are in a hurry, just check the second volume of Feynman's lectures on physics. I'll go mostly through that.

• Griffiths. Introduction to electrodynamics.
• Lèvy-Leblond and Butoli. La physique en questions: Electricité et magnétisme.

• Purcell. Berkeley Series Vol. 2
• Jackson. Classical Electrodynamics. (In my humble opinion, It's an excellent book of reference, but is not a good book for studying... Nothing personal. I know one should work it down at least once in a live time)

Not so well, not so bad.

I got the mark of Statistical Mechanics' last examination, was not so bad... but ok.

Review:

• First evaluation: Exam 73%, Homework 93%.
• Second evaluation: Exam 75%, Homework ??%.

So, even better than the first but not as well as I would.

Ah!!! Today I'm gotta talk about properties of the partition function... Let's see!!!

Decisive dates

Yesterday I knew the dates for the qualifier exams.

August 7th: Quantum Mechanics.
August 8th: Statistical Mechanics.
August 9th: Classical Mechanics.
August 10th: Electrodynamics.

May the force be with me...

Hola gente:

Este post no esta en Inglés porque simplemente, su contenido no puede ser descrito de otra forma mas que en la lengua madre.

Ayer, domingo (no se que fecha) pase media mañana cocinardo.

1. Carne: primero de sancocha, se esmecha.
2. Sofrito: cebolla, pimenton, ajo y un chorizo.
3. Caraotas: agua y candela... hasta que ablanden.
4. Arroz: con unas rueditas de cebolla, un ajo y sal.
5. Caraotas 2: una vez blanditas se le echa el sofrito y se cocina un rato más.
6. Carne 2: se guisa la carne esmechada con tomate y algunos aliños.
7. Tajadas: se taja un buen plátano maduro y se fríe.
8. Otros: un huevo frito... y un trozo de queso.

Si señor.... un tremendo PABELLÓN CRIOLLO. Lo único que faltó fue un joropo bien zapateao.

Properties of the Partition Function.

After a course on Statistical Mechanics... including thermodynamics, phase transitions, statistics, ensembles (micro-canonical, canonical and grand-canonical), Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics, I should give an exposition on the properties of the Partition Function.

Reference:

Kerson Huang. Statistical Mechanics. Chapter 9.

Now, reading this chapter I could understand most of the different things we're dealing on though the course.

After trying very hard to get the movie "The legend of 1900", finally I found it, so new I've the Book called "Novecento" (in Spanish), the movie (In Italian)... but the most amazing is a lecture of the original book, You can find it in the archives of Rete Due.

Statistical exam today... :-(

Well people...

First exam was not bad... a bit more than 70%
First Homework, more than 90%.

So, today I don't wanna do it worse than before. Let's see what happen.

Growing faster.

Last Tuesday Alejandro was to a medical checking... the one of the first month.

He's 1.5 Kg heavier and 6 cm taller than when he was born. Not bad at all. :-) The only thing is that this rhythm of eating will make us bankrupt, he he he...

Despite yesterday began raining, everything change after knowing the result of an exam on Electrodynamics.

It really makes me feel proud... I got a 95%.

Moreover, Life is changing and working a new way out.
